What is wrong
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2026 Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10.1-inch center stack screen. The screen may lose power and fail to display the rearview camera image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Why it matters
A rearview camera image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
The remedy is currently under development. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed October 5, 2026. Additional letters will be sent when the remedy is available. Ford's number for this recall is 26C42. Vehicle Identification Numbers involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 25, 2026.
Recall repairs are free at the brand's dealers, no matter who owns the car now.
What to do now
- Enter your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls – it shows whether this recall is open on your exact car. Your VIN is on the driver-side dashboard (look through the windshield) and on your registration.
- If it is open, call a Ford dealer to book the free repair. Ask how long parts will take if the remedy is not ready yet.
- A mobile mechanic cannot do recall work – only the brand's dealers can. A mobile mechanic can still check other problems on the car where it is parked.
