Editorial Policy

How our guides are written, sourced and corrected.

Who we write for

Drivers who need a car fixed where it sits, and mechanics who do that work. We write in plain English, answer the question first, and put safety before anything else.

Sources

Every price, figure and rule in a guide comes from a source we read – government agencies, state law, automakers, auto clubs, and prices that mechanics publish on their own websites – and each guide lists its sources at the bottom with the month they were checked. Where we could not confirm something, we leave it out.

Prices

Mobile price ranges come from the prices that mechanics we list publish on their own websites, and repair-shop figures from RepairPal's national estimates. They are national ranges: real prices depend on the vehicle, the parts and the city, and the mechanic quotes after looking.

No paid content

Nobody pays to be mentioned in a guide. Mechanics cannot buy their way into the free list. The only paid placement on the site is the labelled City Exclusive slot on a city page.

Not advice for your car

A guide is general information, not a diagnosis. A mechanic who can see your car will always know more than any page.

Updates and corrections

Guides show the month they were last updated. If you spot an error, email [email protected] and we will check it against the source.
