Honda Reportedly Plans a $2.5 Billion Hybrid SUV Plant in Ohio
It would be Honda's first new U.S. vehicle assembly plant in about two decades. Honda has not confirmed it.

What has been reported
According to reports in The Columbus Dispatch and Automotive World, summarized by Repairer Driven News on September 25, Honda is planning a plant in Ohio worth about $2.5 billion that would build around 250,000 large hybrid vehicles a year.
Construction could start in 2027, with production in 2030, and the plan depends on state incentives. The exact site has not been named. Some outlets report the plant could build the next Acura MDX and two other large SUVs; that has not been confirmed either.
What Honda says
Honda declined to confirm the plan. In a statement, it said it grows U.S. production "steadily, using highly flexible production lines and making efficient use of existing facilities before we consider adding capacity."
Why it matters
Honda paused three electric vehicles planned for Ohio in March 2026, and its seven North American plants – with capacity of about 1.67 million vehicles a year – are close to full. The company plans 15 next-generation hybrid models worldwide by March 2030. For drivers, it is another sign that hybrids, not only battery-electric cars, will be a large share of new Hondas and Acuras.
