What is wrong
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Ram 1500 vehicles. A radio software error may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Why it matters
A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
The radio software will be updated over-the-air or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 24, 2026. Chrysler's number for this recall is 83D. Vehicle Identification Numbers involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 9, 2026.
Recall repairs are free at the brand's dealers, no matter who owns the car now.
What to do now
- Enter your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls – it shows whether this recall is open on your exact car. Your VIN is on the driver-side dashboard (look through the windshield) and on your registration.
- If it is open, call a Ram dealer to book the free repair. Ask how long parts will take if the remedy is not ready yet.
- A mobile mechanic cannot do recall work – only the brand's dealers can. A mobile mechanic can still check other problems on the car where it is parked.
