What is wrong

Chrysler is recalling certain 2026 Ram 1500 vehicles. The tire pressure monitoring system sensors may fail to detect low tire pressure and/or fail to illuminate the tire pressure monitoring system warning light as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."

Why it matters

A TPMS warning light that fails to notify the driver of low tire pressure increases the risk of a crash.

The fix

Dealers will inspect and replace the tire pressure sensors, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 27, 2026. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 51D. Vehicle Identification Numbers involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 6, 2026.

Recall repairs are free at the brand's dealers, no matter who owns the car now.

What to do now

  1. Enter your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls – it shows whether this recall is open on your exact car. Your VIN is on the driver-side dashboard (look through the windshield) and on your registration.
  2. If it is open, call a Ram dealer to book the free repair. Ask how long parts will take if the remedy is not ready yet.
  3. A mobile mechanic cannot do recall work – only the brand's dealers can. A mobile mechanic can still check other problems on the car where it is parked.
  4. Until it is fixed, check the tire pressures yourself with a gauge, at least once a month and before long trips. The correct pressure is on the sticker in the driver's door frame.
